We will be holding our first Drop-In morning on Saturday 23rd January, where islanders can pop in and get an initial assessment of your diabetic risk and learn more about what we do as a charity.
There will be a number of professionals and charity representatives at the event to greet anyone who pays a visit, including two nurses from the Diabetic Team who will be on hand to answer questions and carry out diabetes risk questionnaires. The questionnaire asks targeted questions to assess your risk level and whether you should see your GP for a more definitive test.
Our aim is to help support people and promote the ‘live well’ with diabetes message. We all have diabetes, and know how isolating it can be. We want you to know that you aren’t alone, so why not pop in for a chat on Saturday?
There will also be some delicious low carb biscuits available thanks to the Unikorn Low Carb bakery!
The Chase's Mark Labbett has spoken about his diabetes diagnosis, warning that his condition was only picked up during a routine check-up.
Being aware of the signs and symptoms can help with a early diagnosis, these include;
Urinate a lot, often at night
Are very thirsty
Are very hungry
Have blurry vision
Feel very tired
Have sores that heal slowly

It's Plastic Free July!
We should all try our best to reduce our plastic consumption for the planets sake, but did you know that exposure to common plastics could increase type 2 diabetes risk?
Making simple swaps to items such as reusable metal waterbottles can help reduce this risk and it's also better for the environment - a win win!
