Until recently, we thought there were only 2 types of diabetes. However, research now shows there are some other rarer types of diabetes.
Gestational diabetes – this is when diabetes develops in pregnancy, and is most similar to type 2 diabetes. Due to the increased demands on the body during pregnancy, some women are unable to produce enough insulin, or their bodies are unable to use the insulin effectively. Gestational diabetes usually disappears once the baby is born.
